Evidence-Based Research (Gap in Knowledge in Human Services)
Oh the Places You’ll Go. ~Dr. Seuss
Throughout the course, you have examined the history and development of human services that has made the field what it is today. This quote sums up the many opportunities available in the field of human services. The field continues to develop through a growing amount of evidence-based research that informs practice. As scholar practitioners you have the opportunity to contribute to this body of knowledge and fill the gaps where little or no research exists. Whether it is criminal rehabilitation programs, therapy vs. medication treatments, health programs, or child welfare programs, a vast number of topics continue to need additional research. Ultimately, research can lead to changes in human service practice.
To prepare for this Discussion, identify a topic in your area of interest in human services where you believe a gap in knowledge exists. Think about how evidence-based research on this topic might inform practice.
With these thoughts in mind:
The Assignment: Write a brief description of a topic where there is a gap in knowledge. Then explain why the topic needs to be researched. Explain how evidence-based research on this topic might inform human services practice in your area of interest. Finally, how has research impacted any of the human services organizations in the video carousel? Be specific and use examples to illustrate your explanation.
NOTE: Video Carousel is attached
