Comparison or Contrast

First, take a look at the list of comparison or contrast promptsPreview the documentView in a new window. Keep in mind that for this assignment, you will do one or the other. In other words, you will be primarily contrasting two things that most people may consider similar, or you will compare two things most people think are different. Look over the list for a topic or choose one of your own.  If you have an idea that is not on this list, please feel free to use it. However, make sure your choice is subjective or argumentative. (A reasonable person should be able to disagree with your contrast or comparison.)

For your outline, you will need to choose between two methods: “block” or “point-by-point.” (I recommend that you review the  (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.comparison or  (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.contrast video (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. from last week to understand the difference between the two.) Both are effective methods for organizing.

1. Brad Paisley fans may wear a white cowboy hat.

2. Trace Adkins fans may support Romney for president.

B. Fans are willing to spend large amounts to support their idol.

1. Taylor Swift tickets, which may cost over $125.00, sell out within minutes.

2. Willie Nelson t-shirts sell for $40.00 each

II. Rap Music

A. Fans often identify with the artist by wearing signature clothes and adopting the artist’s social causes.

1. Lil’ Wayne fans may wear his signature ball cap.

2. Common’s fans may support their anti-war stance

B. Fans are willing to spend large amounts to support their idol.

1. Bridget Kelly tickets, which may cost over $100.00, sell out within minutes.

2  Lil’ Kim sun glasses sell for $80.00 each,

III. Conclusion: Restate thesis in a creative way.
