Psychological Profile of a Criminal Offender: Part 2
In Unit 3, you developed a profile from a list of four infamous criminals. For this assignment, you will create a profile of a criminal offender of your choice. You may choose one from the original list of Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Richard Ramirez, and Andrea Yates, or you may choose another offender with whom you are familiar.
Creating a profile for one of these offenders will help you:
Think through the psychology of crime more thoroughly than you would otherwise.
Develop skills for formulating arguments that favor a particular condition or deficit, which is important in all types of professional and academic writing.
Better understand the psychological theories you apply to your case study.
In your profile, identify the traits and personality characteristics of the offender that are consistent with a specific psychological theory or concept that has been shown to be linked to antisocial conduct. Be sure to identify at least one theory in your profile. Draw on material in the readings and outside sources to support your profile. This will allow you to defend your profile based on scholarly literature in the field rather than on personal bias. Then look at how psychological constructs related to your diagnosis may be used in prevention programs and interventions.
Be sure to integrate any feedback you received from your instructor on the previous assignment.
